This meal plan agreement is made between you and The Trustees of Indiana University on behalf of the Indiana University South Bend campus (“IUSB”, “IU South Bend” or “University”). By electronically signing this agreement, you agree that you have read and accept all of the terms and conditions as outlined below. For individuals under 18 years of age, this agreement will not be effective unless their parent or guardian agrees to its terms by submitting the electronic agreement.
Meal Plan Eligibility
- IUSB Meal Plans are available to any person who has been admitted to and will be enrolled as a student on the IU South Bend campus or who is employed as a faculty or staff member at IU South Bend.
- Required Meal Plans: IUSB Meal Plans purchased by students residing in IUSB housing. Students residing in IUSB housing are required to maintain an IUSB Meal Plan throughout the term of their housing contract.
- Optional Meal Plans: IUSB Meal Plan purchased by staff/faculty or students who do not reside in IUSB housing.
IUSB Meal Plans Available for Purchase
- Base Plan – $400 per semester for $400 Dining Dollars
- Cream Plan – $575 per semester for $600 Dining Dollars
- Crimson Plan – $750 per semester for $800 Dining Dollars
Meal Plan Duration
- IUSB Meal Plans can be purchased or upgraded anytime throughout the semester. The cost of the plan and amount of Dining Dollars received will not be pro-rated.
- Required Meal Plans are for the full academic year (both fall and spring semesters), unless a student has a spring-only housing contract—in that case, the IUSB Meal Plan is required only for the spring semester.
- Optional Meal Plans are effective and binding for the semester for which the IUSB Meal Plan was purchased.
- The contract terms and conditions begin on the date of purchase for Optional Meal Plans and on the date of housing assignment for Required Meal Plans.
- Dining Dollars become available for use on the date of purchase or the first day of the semester for which the IUSB Meal Plan was purchased, whichever is later.
- IUSB Meal Plan balances will expire at the end of the academic year on the last day of the spring semester as listed in the official academic calendar.
Meal Plan Usage and Carry-Over
- IUSB Meal Plans are for your exclusive use and are not transferable.
- Dining Dollars can be used for purchases at the any on-campus dining services location. See the Dining Services website for locations and hours of operation.
- Dining services may be limited during Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, and any day the campus is officially closed. IUSB reserves the right to make other operational adjustments to dining services as necessary in its sole discretion. Any such operational adjustment will not constitute a cancellation of the IUSB Meal Plan or this agreement.
- Dining Dollars can be used for guests at any on-campus dining services location. You must always be present when using Dining Dollars for others.
- In the event that the Crimson Card ID picture does not match the person presenting the Crimson Card, the card will be confiscated and reported to IUPD and/or the Office of Student Conduct.
- You are responsible for reporting a lost or stolen Crimson Card to the Crimson Card Office. You will be responsible for all purchases made with your Crimson Card until the time your Crimson Card is reported lost or stolen to the Crimson Card Office.
- Unused Dining Dollars will carry over from the fall semester to the spring semester but will not carry over from the spring semester to any future semester. Any Dining Dollars remaining at the end of the spring semester will be forfeited.
Meal Plan Billing and Payments
- All Required Meal Plan charges will be included as part of the housing fee and billed in accordance with the housing contract terms and conditions.
- Optional Meal Plans can be purchased with a credit card or by having charges placed on your bursar account. Charges placed on your bursar account will be subject to the same payment deadlines and penalties as other university charges.
- Failure to pay for your IUSB Meal Plan in accordance with the housing contract terms and conditions and/or the bursar’s deadlines may result in the suspension or cancellation of the IUSB Meal Plan at the discretion of the University.
- Payment of IUSB Meal Plan charges is not contingent upon receipt of financial aid monies or scholarships. You agree that you are responsible for all IUSB Meal Plan payments and charges not covered by financial aid assistance or scholarships.
Meal Plan Cancellations
- Required Meal Plans can be canceled in accordance with the cancellation term in the housing contract and will only be canceled with the cancellation of the housing contract.
- Optional Meal Plans can be canceled at any time, subject to the refund deadline dates below. Refunds will be made based on the purchase price of the IUSB Meal Plan less any Dining Dollars used. If there is a current balance on your bursar account, the meal plan refund will automatically be applied to balance owed to the University. Refunds will be provided based on the cancellation date according to the following refund deadlines dates:
- During the first week of classes: 100% refund
- During the second week of classes: 75% refund
- During the third week of classes: 50% refund
- During the fourth week of classes: 25% refund
- After the fourth week of classes: no refund
- The date of cancellation is determined by the date the IUSB Meal Plan is deactivated in the Crimson Card system. You are responsible for all meal plan charges through the date of cancellation.
- You are the only person who can cancel your IUSB Meal Plan. No other person or department can cancel or request to cancel an IUSB Meal Plan on your behalf.
Meal Plan Cancellation and Refund Exception
- You may request an exception to the IUSB Meal Plan cancellation and refund terms if there is a significant or unusual circumstance that causes you to not fulfill the requirements of IUSB Meal Plan, including being called to active military duty, withdrawing from IUSB for medical reasons, or participating in an IUSB academically sponsored program located outside of the South Bend area (e.g. study abroad, student teaching, internship). - Exceptions will not be approved for failing to review the IUSB Meal Plan contract terms and conditions outlined above, including the on-campus dining options/hours, use restrictions, and IUSB Meal Plan duration/expiration.
